Solve a Quadratic Equation using Number Line Method

Number Line method is the initial method to learn relational operations. Here is one such example of solving a quadratic equation.

Topic : Quadratic Equation

A quadratic equation to relational operator to express in terms of number line Method.

Problem : Solve 2x2 + 9x + 4 < style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Solution :

2x2 + 9x + 4 = (x + 4)(2x + 1)

So we have (x + 4)(2x + 1) < 0

So either x + 4 <> 0

or x + 4 > 0 and 2x + 1 < 0

That is either x < -4 and x > -1/2

or x > -4 and x < -1/2

Here x < -4 and x > -1/2 is meaningless

So the answer is -4 < x < -1/2

With the help of Number line only we are able to analyze which value for x is acceptable.
