Sets

Have you guys heard of Sets? I am sure you must be asking your mom to get you a set of some educational games and so on. Isn’t it? In this post lets discuss a few things on Sets like the definition of sets, and the important terms in sets.

Definition of Set: - George Cantor is regarded as the "Father of Set theory”. Set is a finite or infinite collection of some object. The most fundamental concept of mathematics is Sets. In mathematics set is called the collection of well defined collection of definite objects. Sets are always defined with capital letters such as Sets A and B are equal but they have to precisely be the same elements.

An object of a set is called the element of the set or it is also called as member of a set. The symbol stands for the element.

Some important terms in Sets are: Roster Method, Set builder form, Finite and Infinite Sets, Null Set or Empty Set or Void Set, Singleton Set or Singlets, Equivalent Sets, Equal Sets, Cardinality of a Set, Universal Set, Subsets, and Power Set.

For example A{2,4,5,6,8} here A is the set and 2,4,5,6,8 are the elements of A.

Sets can be made using colors, names of boys, girls, many more things. This helps us to solve problems on Venn diagram. Let me know if you have made sets and how useful was this post.
