Solve Ratio and Proportion

I have given you a simple explanation of Ratio and Proportion in my last two posts one was for ratio and the other one was for proportion, did you try working on that? Well, in this post i have some problems to solve ratio and proportion. Check them and try working on that. There are many online worksheet of solve proportion given, check those sites and try solving the answers for them.

I have a few examples which are mentioned below

Solve the following proportion

1) Solve x , if

4 : x : : 12 : 9

product of means = x * 12

product of extremes = 4 * 9

we know,

product of means = product of extremes

x * 12 = 4 * 9

12x = 36

x = 36/12

x = 3

2) Find the unknown value in the proportion: 2:x=3:9

2 : x = 3 : 9

Solution:-

= 2/x=3/9

= 9(2)=x(3)

= 18=3x

= 18/3= x

therefore x= 6

The following example is a word problem with the solution with steps, check it out.

3) A car travels in a 120 miles in 2 hours. Find how far it would be travel for 4 hours?

Solution:

Step 1: Convert the given problem into word format.

Step 2: Then we get the word format as, If 2 then 120. Then If 4 then how many miles is used?

Step 3: Third step is to find the proportional relationship for the given items.

2----> 120

4---->4/2*120=240

Therefore the car traveled for 240 miles.

Easy examples right!!!! don't you feel? Try them out believe me, you guys will like it also. Let me know about your feeling.
