Associative Property:- By the word "associate" we get to know that this property refers to grouping. Example for addition:- x+(y+z)=(x+y)+z and for multiplication it is x(yz)=(xy)z
Look below for the example for addition using numbers.
(3 + 6) + 8 = 3 + (6 + 8)
9 + 8 = 3 + 14
17 = 17
Here, we find the product to be similar irrespective to what ever way you put it across or any way we group it, product remains the same.
In common, the associative property of addition can be written as:
(a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
Example for Multiplication using numbers:
(3 × 5) × 4 = 3 × (5 × 4)
15 × 4 = 3 × 20
60 = 60
Did notice that the PRODUCT is similar no matter what way you group the factors.
In general, the associative property of multiplication is written as:
(a × b) × c = a × (b × c)
