Distributive property

Have you observed your text books, it usually has the topic basic number properties, which is just a little section of the topic and it is seen again in the next academic year. But do you know how important this concept is? All the problems in mathematics have some properties and it obeys its properties. Lets learn that in detail. Below i have just tried to brief you with it.

There are three basic properties of numbers such as Distributive Property, Associative Property and Commutative Property. Lets discuss on the first property i.e. distributive property in this post.

Distributive property:- This is a property which helps us in 'mental mathematics' and our children should be trained in this as this helps them multiple quickly in their minds. It is an easy concept to understand, we been studying multiplication distributes over addition. Example:- x(y+z)= xy=xz. The Distributive Property lets you multiply a addition by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products. Lets work on an example using numbers.

Example No.1:-

4 x 53
=4(50+3)
=(4 x 50) + (4 x 3)
=200 + 12
=212

Let's try one more
2y(y-3)-3y(y+2)
=2y2-6y-3y2-6y
=-y2-12y

By using distributive property we can calculate these types of calculation quickly in our minds. Distributive property refers to both addition and multiplication but the other two properties refer to either multiplication or addition. We will work on it in my other post, refer to them and leave your comments on this post.
