Different rules of Fractions

Did you find the information on fractions easy and more informative? Fractions are a part of a whole number which is explained in my previous post. Do you know there are rules to solve fractions, let’s discuss on that.

There are 4 rules of fraction; lets discuss the same with an example.

Ist rule of fraction: - Fraction rule for addition

When the denominator is the same just add the numerator. Keep the denominator as it is.

Example:-

a) 2/8+5/8= 7/8

b) 1/8+5/8= 6/8

Fraction rule of addition if the denominator are different, we need to take the LCM of the denominator and just add the numerator.

2nd rule of fraction: - Fraction rule for subtraction

If the denominator is the same, we need to subtract the numerator and leave the denominator as it is.

Example:

a) 3/8-2/8

= 3-2/8

=1/8(answer)

b) 7/12-3/12

=7-3/12

=4/12(answer)

Fraction rule of subtraction with different denominator, we need to find the LCM of the denominator and subtract the numerator.

3rd fraction rule of multiplication:- We need to multiply two numerators to find the numerator and multiple the denominator to find the denominator.

Example:-

a) 1/2*1/3=1*1/2*3

=1/6

b)2/4*3/4

= 2*2/4*4

=4/16

4th fraction rule of Division:- Here we need to learn the trick of dividing. When two fractions are given, write the second fraction upside down. We need to multiple them to divide.

Example:-

3/4 3 8 24

------ = ----- x ------ = ------ = 6

1/8 4 1 4

We have discussed the 4 fraction rules these rules will help you solve fraction problem easily. Use your own numbers and try out these rules.
